Groede, 21.09.2026

In Groede, you can still find traces of how things used to be. The pavements scrubbed clean, the weeds picked out from between the paving stones (with a little knife), the windows polished until not a streak remains.
You could say that the centre of “de Groe”, as the village is known locally, is a window onto a Zeeland Flanders that has largely disappeared. Above all, there is time, and time here seems to have almost stood still.
I wander through the little streets, across the square, glancing in through a window here and there. Sometimes, someone looks back.
