The houses in Ferrara are impressive — tall, stately façades that suggest a lot but reveal little of what lies behind them. Yet one weekend every October, many of these imposing front doors open to the public during Ferrara Monumenti Aperti.
Students from Ferrara’s schools bring the history of these houses to life through short role-plays, creating a bridge not only to the past but also to the future — for there can be no future without an understanding of the past.
This year, I visited the event for the first time.
Le case di Ferrara sono imponenti — alte facciate nobili che lasciano intuire molto, ma rivelano poco di ciò che si nasconde dietro. Tuttavia, un fine settimana di ottobre, molte di queste porte maestose si aprono al pubblico durante l’evento Ferrara Monumenti Aperti.
Gli studenti delle scuole di Ferrara presentano, con brevi rappresentazioni teatrali, la storia delle case in questione, creando così un ponte non solo con il passato, ma anche con il futuro — perché non può esserci futuro senza la conoscenza del passato.
Quest’anno, io c’ero per la prima volta.
De huizen in Ferrara zijn imponent. Hoge, voorname gevels die veel doen vermoeden maar weinig prijsgeven van wat erachter schuil gaat. Eén weekend in oktober worden elk jaar echter veel imposante voordeuren geopend voor het publiek tijdens het evenement Ferrara Monumenti Aperti.
Leerlingen van de scholen van Ferrara presenteren met korte rollenspelen de geschiedenis van de huizen in kwestie. Ze leggen daarmee niet alleen een link naar het verleden, maar ook naar de toekomst. Er is immers geen toekomst zonder (kennis van het) verleden.
Dit jaar bezocht ik het evenement voor het eerst.
